Taking place on the final day of IMS Ibiza 2022<\/a>, iconic electronic musician, producer, visual artist, academic and leading pioneer in environmental activism\u00a0Brian Eno<\/strong>\u00a0delivered an insightful keynote interview with IMS partner and legendary\u00a0BBC Radio 1 DJ Pete Tong<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0The vital and timely keynote interview took place via video call to avoid unnecessary air travel and is one part of a dedicated focus at IMS Ibiza on the climate emergency.<\/p>\n

He set the scene on the environmental crisis the world is facing along with discussing his charity\u00a0EarthPercent<\/strong>, which provides a simple way for the music industry to support the most impactful organisations addressing the climate emergency.<\/p>\n

One of the biggest issues in the music industry is the carbon footprint of the audience for live tours \u2013 Brian Eno<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

EarthPercent aims to collect a 1% \u2018tithe\u2019 from all the money that passes through the music business and redirect it where it will really makes a difference. A team of advisors research the most effective action from climate justice to energy transition. The aim of EarthPercent is to generate significant income via a rolling and continual mechanism, establishing a highly effective way for the music industry to be part of a solution. The charity also aims to address how globally, only 3% of philanthropic giving goes towards environmental cause.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re in a crisis here and we should direct our resources towards that crisis. <\/em>There is quite a lot of good news [on the environment] and that story doesn\u2019t get told\u201d<\/em>\u00a0says Brian Eno\u00a0\u201cMillions of people are trying to address this situation, the biggest challenge in human history. <\/em>\u2013\u00a0Brian Eno<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Brian Eno also hails the work of environmental law charity\u00a0ClientEarth<\/strong>, who hold governments accountable in the courts and with shareholder activism changing the direction of companies.<\/p>\n

Brian Eno<\/strong>\u00a0was a founder member of\u00a0Roxy Music.<\/strong>\u00a0As well as a discography of highly influential solo albums, Brian has worked with some of the most creative artists of our time including works with\u00a0Talking Heads, U2\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Coldplay<\/strong>. His collaborations deeply interweave pop culture, working with the likes of David Bowie, David Byrne, Grace Jones, Karl Hyde\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0James Blake<\/strong>\u00a0as well as many others. He coined the term \u201cambient music\u201d and recorded the album\u00a0\u201cAmbient 1: Music for Airports\u201d,\u00a0<\/strong>the first album to be described as \u2018ambient music\u2019.<\/p>\n
